The auction of frequencies following the transition to DVB-T2 could net as much as CZK4.6 billion (€170 million) in the Czech Republic.
E15 reports that the move to DVB-T2 will start in the second half of this year and should be completed in early 2021.
It adds that according to the strategy, the transition will cost between CZK871 million and CZK1.05 billion.
Costs will be met by the national transmission company Ceske Radiokomunikace (CRa), which should generate additional revenues from charging higher fees for the use of radio frequencies, and partly from the budget of the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
Excluding the proceeds of the frequency auction, the state should earn between CZK109 million and CZK295 million from the transition.
Terrestrial TV still accounts for around 60% of viewing in the Czech Republic, with the remainder being spilt between cable, DTH and IPTV.
